The Vennel Local and Family History Centre has now amalgamated with the North Ayrshire Museum to become the North Ayrshire Heritage Centre in Manse Street, Saltcoats and houses collections relating to Ayrshire and Scotland including books, pamphlets, directories, maps, postcards, photographs, newspapers and an extensive archive collection. The museum contains objects on display which include local social domestic and industrial objects, medieval carvings and temporary exhibitions which change every three to six months.
The district of North Ayrshire comprises of Skelmorlie, Largs, Fairlie, West Kilbride, Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston, Irvine, Dreghorn, Kilwinning, Dalry, Kilbirnie, Beith and the isles of Arran and Cumbrae.
We also have an extensive genealogy section for those wishing to trace their Ayrshire ancestry and also sell vouchers for the popular ScotlandsPeople website.
We can also arrange for local Registrars to to help people access birth, marriage and death certificates from all over Scotland for a small fee.
We offer a research service for those unable to visit the centre personally, and staff at the centre will happily lend a hand to anyone who calls in to carry out their own research.
